DeFi Examples on Ethereum, Tezos, and Algorand

Jun 19, 2022 | DeFi Examples

Decentralized Exchanges: This type of exchange refers to an exchange that allows the trading of various digital assets in a peer-to-peer format. This form does not require an intermediary or a single centralized party.

Examples include:

  • Uniswap (Ethereum)
  • Quipuswap (Tezos)
  • Tinyman (Algorand)

Token Standards: Token standards refers to a subsidiary of smart contract standard. Today, ERC-20 is one of the most popular token standards based on the Ethereum network. Within Tezos, the latest token standard is FA2, which supports a wide range of token types that are fungible, non-fungible, non-transferable, as well as multi-asset contracts. On Algornad, the ASA standard supports fungible, non-fungible, restricted fungible and restricted nonfungible assets.

Examples include:

  • ERC-20 (Ethereum)
  • ERC-721 (Ethereum)
  • FA1.2 (Tezos)
  • FA2 (Tezos)
  • ASA (Algorand)

Wrapped Assets: A wrapped asset is an asset that bridges another asset from another native public blockchain network to an asset that wraps itself. Wrapped assets not only improve the functionality and ease of use of wrapped assets but also provide a wide range of high-level financial services that were previously unavailable.

Examples include:

  • WRAP protocol (Bender Labs)
  • Wrapped Tezos (StakerDAO)

Cross-Chain Swaps: A cross-chain swap (Atomic Swap) refers to the action of exchanging two different cryptocurrencies through a peer-to-peer form. This process enables two parties to exchange between each other trustless and w/o third-party moderation.

Examples include:

  • Tezex (StableTech)
  • Atomex (Atomex OÜ)
  • StakerBridge (StakerDAO)

Oracle refers to off-chain data sources that provide answers to specific questions/information that cannot be obtained directly on-chain. With Oracle, you can merge multiple price feeds (Oracle) to get and trust information such as prices.

Examples include:

  • Harbinger (Tezos)
  • Chainlink (Ethereum)

Stablecoins/Synthetic Assets: Stablecoin is an asset that is backed by reserves and provides price stability for highly volatile native assets. Synthetic assets are assets that provide opportunities for a variety of assets that are not derived from the underlying asset. You also don´t have to own the underlying asset.

Examples include:

kUSD (KolibriDAO)

DAI (MakerDAO)

USDS (Stably)

USDC (Circle)

uUSD (youves)

Ctez (Tezos Checker)

Serokell is a software research and development company, focused on high complexity tasks in the area of computer science.
Our team is composed of developers, designers, engineers, computer scientists, and mathematicians, all to help you realize your vision.
We use functional programming to write robust code that works anywhere, anytime.

Initially, we worked with StakerDAO to implement the STKR governance token a monitoring app on Tezos. After that, we moved to BLND token and implemented a set of Ethereum contracts for holding BLND and performing buyback with them.

We also implemented a web app to run the buyback process.

After that, we designed and implemented the Bridge application and associated set of contracts that allow exchanging BLND and wXTZ tokens between Ethereum and Tezos.
We are working on Bridge backend support for ALgorand now.

Rand Labs is a blockchain development lab specialized in Algorand technology.

At Rand Labs we have developed specialized expertise in blockchain technology. Through 8 years of experience, we have worked closely with all major blockchain protocols and have garnered valuable experience in the industry that helps us deliver the maximum quality in our products and those of our partners.

We spend years training and advancing our team members' skills by facing ever more complex technical challenges in the blockchain space. Having helped and participated in the development of many of the most popular blockchain products in the world since 2013, we are in the capacity to deliver quality solutions regardless of the difficulty of the problem.

Despite having built numerous blockchain products and consensus upgrades from scratch, we believe a business-oriented acumen is as important in delivering maximum product-market fit. With our long history in the industry, we have developed a valuable network of relationships that is available to our partners. Additionally, The Rand Labs management team has been very active as investors and advisors in the space. We have invested in and advised very successful projects. As important, we have seen many projects fail which allowed us to learn valuable insights from those failures.
